D. Carlos I Park

The D. Carlos I Park is a gorgeous 19th century romantic garden situated in the historic centre of my hometown.

The Park was created in 1889, according to a project of Rodrigo Berquó and afterwards restored in 1948, in a new project signed by Francisco Caldeira Cabral.

This refreshing green area used to work as a complement of the important Thermal Hospital that named the town of Caldas da Rainha ("Queen's Hot Springs").

The Park is endowed with several facilities, such as a pond with boats, tennis courts, a bandstand, restaurant, tea house and esplanade. Throughout the park there are several sculptures, and also here is located José Malhoa Museum, that houses several important collections of Portuguese art, and of course, a wonderful set of the work of the great Portuguese artist José Malhoa (1855 - 1933).
