Animalia_Arara-Nanica

My first work on my Animalia Collection from Lisbon Zoo, starting with the letter A.

Alimenta-se de sementes, flores, frutos, bagas e plantas de cultivo. Pode realizar movimentos dispersivos em função da disponibilidade alimentar, podendo ser vistos bandos destas aves perto de campos de cereais.
Há muito pouca informação acerca do comportamento reprodutor desta espécie na natureza. Sabe-se no entanto, que o ninho é construído em ocos de árvores, que apenas a fêmea incuba os ovos e que os juvenis dependem de cuidados parentais nos primeiros tempos de vida.
Distribuição e Habitat: América do Sul - Florestas tropicais e savanas arborizadas.



It is the smaller representative of the macaws. The plumage is predominantly green, with a bluish forehead, and a typical red spot on the wings. Juveniles do not have blue in plumage and red are very reduced.
It feeds on seeds, flowers, fruits, berries and crop plants. It can perform dispersive movements due to food availability, and flocks can be seen near cereal fields.
There is very little information on the reproductive behaviour of this species in nature. It is known, however, that the nest is built in hollows of trees, that only the female incubates the eggs and that the young depend on parental care in prime times of life.
Distribution and Habitat: South America - Tropical forests and wooded savannas.
